Representative Short Term Engagements
Durable Goods Manufacturing

Challenge: A private equity firm acquired a 105 year manufacturer. They discovered grossly over-valued inventories and obsolete capital equipment, little to no business process, and antiquated systems. Engaged as an interim Chief Information Officer.

Results: Teamed with the existing COO and CFO of a sister company to fully terminate all company operations and absorb the  “brand” into that sister company. Proposed and gained approval for a new operating model to allow the brand to exist as a virtual company. Facilitated the transfer of intellectual property, financials, operational data, and all viable inventories. Enabled a transition to lean workflow and cellular manufacturing in the sister company. Also, identified and satisfied the human capital requirements to maintain the brand and its customers.

Financial Services

Challenge: One of the nation’s big banks and brokerage companies was experiencing a challenging period of rapid expansion through multi-billion dollar mergers and acquisitions. The entrepreneurial culture had led to very high operating costs associated with each operating company functioning as an independent silo. Engaged by the holding company at a Vice President level.

Results: Negotiated absorption of 23 existing Business Units project groups and created an above-the-line provider organization delivering internal and external projects, business continuity, and technology management. Led delivery enterprise change initiatives, the business systems life-cycle, process improvement, and integration of peer group functions through 27 multi-billion dollar acquisitions.

Retailer

Challenge:  A $8B retailer had experienced rapid growth through up to 400 location acquisitions per year. Each location was rebranded without changes to operational systems or customer facing environments. Engaged to analyze to the challenges this presented and deliver a solution.

Results: Interviewed managers and staff from all functional areas with the company, facilitated brainstorming sessions with senior leadership, and delivered a five year strategic plan addressing each problem area.

Engagement was expanded to include analysis of current project management practices and then develop a three year roadmap for deploying and equiping a corporate Project Management Office.

High Tech Startup

Challenge: Company’s founder sold intellectual property and controlling interest in the small brand to an investor group. These investors required the engagement of an interim executive team to prepare for additional rounds of funding and to “build-out” the company for a permanent management team. Engaged as the interim Senior Vice President of Products and Services.

Results: Defined and structured the product life-cycle of packaged data protection applications and hardware devices supporting 23 operating systems, 7 databases, and 3 email engines. Implemented an education services group delivering onsite and online training for both customers and channel sales partners. Managed provisioning and establishment of a corporate headquarters in a city removed from the technology teams. Developed professional services and training capabilities to support both customers and channel sales partners.
